John Mollick takes the checkers at Lernerville Speedway.
What won the race: Regaining the lead on lap 20 of the 25-lap feature, John Mollick of Toronto Ohio, emerged victorious in the RUSH Dirt Late Model Series season finale during the Steel City Stampede at Lernerville Speedway. He took the checkered flag for the $2,000 paycheck over John Waters of Whitesville, N.Y., who clinched the series title.
Quotable: "My car was getting way too tight trying to keep heat in the tires so I went on the bottom to keep the tires cool and keep it smooth," Mollick said. "I have to thank the Stan's Transmission team — Bob, Bobby, Tom and Tommy — these guys do a hell of job on the car and I just turn the wheel. They told me the old man has never won here so I had to get up on the wheel and get it done."
Key notes: Mollick earned his second RUSH Dirt Late Model Series victory of the season. His previous score came one week earlier at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway. ... Twelve of the 25 starters finished on the lead lap. ... Bruce Hordusky didn't start the feature. ... More than $15,000 in contingencies awards were posted, including a $7,500 Rocket Chassis certificate toward the purchase of an XR1 model. ... The event, which also included DIRTcar Super Late Models, wrapped up Lernerville's season.
On the move: Jason Knowles of Addison, N.Y., started 13th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Mollick's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Stan's Transmisson, Rambo and Autozone.
Points chase: John Waters of Whitesville, N.Y., clinched the $5,000 crown with his second-place finish.
