MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Preliminary results from the fourth annual Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway, the $15,000-to-win season opener on the Schaeffer Oil Spring Nationals (results unofficial):

Steady afternoon snow forced officials to call off Saturday's fourth annual Tennessee Tipoff at Smoky Mountain Speedway. The event will be made up on Thursday, May 4.

Friday's prelim recap

Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., earned the pole position for Saturday’s 75-lap Tennessee Tipoff main event with a victory in Friday’s first heat race at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Owens overtook heat polesitter Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., on the backstretch of the first heat and raced to a preliminary victory.

Owens will start alongside fast qualifier Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., in Saturday’s main event, while the other two heat winners — Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., and Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. — make up the second row.

Saturday’s action is scheduled to begin after a 1:30 p.m. drivers’ meeting with a consolation race race preceding the main event.
