Jay Sale enjoys victory lane after winning the Sooner Late Model Series season opener.
What won the race: Jay Sale of Edmond, Okla., registered a $750 victory in the 25-lap Sooner Late Model Series season opener at Creek County Speedway. The veteran racer raced off the outside pole to overtake David Hennan for the lead early in the headliner and was never seriously challenged for the remainder of the distance.
Key notes: Sale's victory was the third of his career on the second-year series. ... Hennan held strong to second place after losing the lead and finished there, but the battle for third was much closer with Logan Ellis turning back challenges from Dillon Rupe and Steven Hawkins to secure the position. ... Jason Redman was the only entrant who didn't start the feature after his car sustained night-ending damage in a heat race accident.
Points chase: Sale moved out to the early points lead after one race.
Car count: 11
Heat race winners: David Hennan, Logan Ellis
Next series race: April 7, Red Dirt Raceway (Meeker, OK) $750
