What won the race: Hank Long of Stilwell, Okla., started the 2017 Southern Outlaw Late Model Series campaign with a flourish, capturing Friday night's season opener for the tour at Batesville Motor Speedway. He beat Clay Julian of Ozark, Ark., to the finish line for a $750 top prize.
Key notes: Long registered his fourth career win on the series, which launched in 2014. All his previous triumphs came last year during his run to a second-place finish in the points standings. ... Wesley Wise of Perryville, Ark., was the lone entrant who did not start the feature. ... Reigning SOLMS champion Eddie Martin of Stilwell, Okla., was not in the opening-night field. ... The event was postponed one week by rain.
On the move: Seventh-place finisher Scott Freeman of Hector, Ark., received the hard charger award after starting 12th.
