What won the race: Third-starting Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., grabbed the lead on the second lap and raced to a 40-lap Ultimate Southeast Series victory at Senoia Raceway, outrunning polesitter and first-lap leader Zach Leonhardi for the $4,000 victory. Clanton's caution-free dominance lasted barely 11 minutes as he took the checkers nearly a half-track ahead of Leonhardi.
Quotable: "We built a race car this week in two days, and it proved tonight how good we are," said Clanton, who credited his crew and a change for Penske Shocks for his performance.
Key notes: Runner-up Zach Leonhardi held off Casey Roberts for his best touring performance. ... Nine of the 24 starters finished on the lead lap in a race presented by Special Olympics Georgia. ... Senoia kicked off a Georgia doubleheader for Ultimate competitors. The second stop at Rome Speedway on Sunday also pays $4,000-to-win.
On the move: Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., started 11th and finished third; hometown driver Clint Smith started 15th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Clanton’s Capital Race Car is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Weldbank Energy, Advocare, Keyser Mfg., Super K Express, The Butcher Shop, Bill Roberts Trucking, Cooper Meat Packers, Penske Shocks and M&S Concrete.
Points chase: Entering Senoia, Jonathan Davenport (92) of Blairsville, Ga., led Ultimate Southeast points; Jason Welshan (78) of Maryville, Tenn., was second followed by Tyler Millwood of Carterville, Ga., and Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga. (tied for third).
