A.J. Diemel (58) battles Chad Mahder (33x) for the lead.
What won the race: A.J. Diemel of Elk Mound, Wis., emerged triumphant in dramatic fashion at Cedar Lake Speedway, pulling off a last-lap pass on Chad Mahder of Eau Claire, Wis., when Mahder bobbled on the cushion exiting turn four heading to the white flag. Diemel earned $3,000 for the victory in the 40-lap Triple Crown event.
Key notes: Diemel battled at the front of the pack with Mahder for virtually the distance in a titanic two-car showdown before nosing out his fellow Badger State driver by a half a length at the finish line. ... Mahder was behind the wheel of J.R. Haley's No. 33. ... The feature ran caution-free with 11 of the 19 starters finishing on the lead lap. ... John Kaanta nearly snuck past both Diemel and Mahder for the lead on lap three but couldn't keep pace with the top two drivers and ultimately finished fourth. ... Scott Gilberts flipped wildly in heat race action, but he wasn't injured.
On the move: Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., started 19th and finished 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Diemel's MB Customs Race Car is sponsored by Badger, Beltline Body Shop, Bobcat of Morris, Mars Race Cars, Deppe Enterprises, T.L. Sinz Plumbing, Schill Construction, Southworth Chevrolet and Prestige Custom Cabinetry.
Points chase: Diemel is Cedar Lake's defending track champion.
Car count: 21
Heat race winners: Chad Mahder, A.J. Diemel, Jesse Glenz
