Kyle Bronson won Whynot's Crate Late Nationals for the second straight year.
What won the race: Repeating a Southern Crate Late Nationals victory, fourth-starting Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., topped third-starting Cory Hedgecock and polesitter Spencer Hughes for a $5,000 winner's check at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Key notes: Bronson also won the race in 2016, when the $5,000-to-win event ran unsanctioned. ... Bronson has five Late Model victories this season, including two previous wins under NeSmith's banner at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., and Cochran (Ga.) Motor Speedway. ... Whynot hosted NeSmith competitors for a rare two-day event. ... The series made its lone appearance of 2017 in Meridian. ... Qualifying and heat races were completed Friday with consolation races and the 75-lap main event Saturday. ... The track offered free grandstand admission for Friday's portion of the program. ... Open practice was scheduled Thursday from 6-10 p.m. ... Five other classes were in action. ... NeSmith competitors were set to wrap up Memorial Day weekend with a Sunday visit to Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., but the program was rained out.
