Tanner English climbs out to celebrate his Ponderosa victory.
What won the race: Regaining the lead from his father Terry English on the 32nd of 35 laps, Tanner English of Benton, Ky., raced to his third MARS DIRTcar Series East win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway. The father-son duo were separated by just 0.307 seconds in a tight finish.
Key notes: Tanner English led from laps 1-24 and 32-35, while Terry English paced laps 25-31. ... Victor Lee debuted a new Swartz by Boggs machine, setting fast time early in the evening, but completed just one lap in his heat race. ... Eight drivers completed all 35 feature laps. ... Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., was running second when his feature ended after 24 laps; his teammate Justin Ratliff completed just five circuits and was the first retiree. ... Ponderosa welcomed a MARS tour for the first time and joined Paducah International Raceway and Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway as the just the third Kentucky oval to ever sanction a MARS event (Windy Hollow Speedway is set to become the fourth on Sunday).
On the move: Caleb Ashby of Cunningham, Tenn., was the hard charger, finishing fourth after starting ninth.
