Steve Casebolt earned his first MARS win in his second start with Jim Beeman Motorsports.
What won the race: Winning in just his second race with the new Jim Beeman Motorsports team, polesitter Steve Casebolt of Richmond, Ind., raced to his first career MARS DIRTcar Series victory in the tour's first-ever visit to Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway. Casebolt collected $3,000 for his triumph over fourth-starting Nick Hoffman.
Quotable: "When your out there all by yourself in the front it's hard to know where to be on the racetrack," Casebolt said. "This place has always been a thorn in my side because I always feel I'm on the wrong side of the track at the wrong time, so that was hard for me. Those lapped cars I think were just dirtying the track up a little bit and dirtying my line up. (Runner-up Nick Hoffman) showed me the line there one time and I was like, oh darn I need to move up, I need to do something different and that's what we did and we were able to hold him off."
Key notes: Casebolt finished second Friday in World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series competition at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio. ... The win was Casebolt's first-ever at Brownstown. ... Third-place finisher Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., won the modified feature. ... Fifth-place finisher Tanner English of Benton, Ky., won Friday's race at Ponderosa Speedway. ... Chad Stapleton was disqualified from the feature; Shelby Miles and Justin Rattliff did not start the race. ... Mother Nature hasn’t been kind to Brownstown this spring as the track had endured five rainouts including four in a row dating back to April 22. ... Saturday's program was the first of four stops at Brownstown for MARS East; July 1, Aug. 19 and Oct. 28 programs are also on the schedule and an April 29 race was rained out.
