John Kaanta takes the checkers for his $3,000 Viking victory.
What won the race: John Kaanta of Elk Mound, Wis., topped Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D., for a $3,000 victory at Viking Speedway. Kaanta won in a Northern Metal Recycling miniseries event between Viking and I-94 speedways.
Key notes: Nineteen of the 25 starters finished the race. ... This was the second race of a Memorial Day doubleheader at Viking. It was a non-touring WISSOTA special. ... Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn., topped a 37-car field in Saturday's WISSOTA Shaw Trucking Challenge Series event while Kaanta finished second. ... The Alexandria track has additional Late Model specials planned on July 1 and Sept. 2-3.
