What won the race: Winning his second touring event of Memorial Day weekend, Jesse Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa, broke through for his first Deery Brothers Summer Series victory Monday at Boone Speedway. Sobbing earned $2,000, adding it to a $1,200 Malvern Bank tour victory Sunday at Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D.
Quotable: “At the end of last year, we decided we were going to race an IMCA Late Model and one of our goals was to try and win a few of these races. Now we’ve got one,” said Sobbing, who moved into the series points lead. “We’ve been right with these guys and it feels good to be able to get a win.”
Key notes: The fourth-starting Sobbing took the lead on the 28th lap from Chad Holladay, who settled for second. ... Sobbing is the tour's 99th winner. ... Rookie Curtis Glover started on the pole and faded to finish 11th. ... The feature ended before 8 p.m. ... Sobbing became the tour's sixth winner in seven races (Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, is the only two-time winner; he was fifth at Boone). … The tour returns to Boone for the Super Nationals show on Sept. 7.
On the move: Todd Cooney of Des Moines, Iowa, started 12th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Sobbing's HomePride Motorsports Black Diamond Chassis is sponsored by The Blooming Barn, RaceNote, Malvern Bank and Dynamic Power.
