Dane Dacus picked up a $4,000 check at Thunderhill.
What won the race: Using the high side at Thunderhill Raceway, seventh-starting Dane Dacus of Lakeland, Tenn., overtook Brad Skinner at mid-race and notched his second career Southern All Star victory Saturday, earning $4,000. Dacus, who made the winning pass just before the halfway point of the 40-lapper, took the checkers ahead of Skinner and Austin Horton, the front-row starters.
Quotable: "My guys did a really good. We weren't that good when we unloaded, and we changed something every time we hit the racetrack," Dacus said. "I think the good Lord just got tired of seeing us make changes on the car, so he finally said, 'Here, we'll give you one.' "
Key notes: Dacus, who survived late-race lapped traffic, previously won on the tour April 17, 2010, at Clayhill Motorsports Park in Atwood, Tenn. ... Jason Welshan ran as high as second before settling for fifth. ... The most serious caution came out for a turn-four scramble on an early restart that included Josh Putnam, Trey Wood, Farrel Skelton and Jason Walker among them. ... The top nine drivers finished on the lead lap. ... Promoter Ricky Spurgeon said Thunderhill drew its largest crowd since he's been operating the track.
Winner's sponsors: Dacus drives a Rocket Chassis powered by a Pro-Tec engine and sponsored by Fair Oaks Ranch, O.H. Hendricks Race Metal and Big Daddy's Garage.
Points chase: Entering Thunderhill, Austin Horton of Whitesburg, Ga., had 828 points to lead T.J. Reaid (732) and Tristan Sealy (718).
