Austin Hubbard gets rolling in prelims at Delaware International Speedway.
What won the race: Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., led all 35 laps Thursday for a $3,000 Battle of the Bay victory over Nick Davis and Dale Hollidge, who rallied after a lap-16 flat tire. Hubbard had a five-second margin at the checkers.
Quotable: “I’m really having a great time this year with this race team,” Hubbard said. “We’re not racing ourselves to death, and we’re just racing when and where we want to. Getting wins close to home is just the icing on the cake. Delaware International Speedway is a special place for me, so to get back to victory lane with so many friends and family there with us means a lot.”
Key notes: Ten cars were running at the finish, seven on the lead lap. ... Ricky Elliott had the fastest lap of the race on lap 12 but retired after 16 laps. ... Amanda Whaley spun in turn four on lap 16 as third-finishing Dale Hollidge ducked into the pits to change a flat tire. ... Kerry King Jr. and Donald Lingo Jr. were eliminated by a lap-13 caution. ... DIS hosted the only Battle of the Bay race of the weekend after miniseries races at Potomac Speedway in Budds Creek, Md., and Winchester (Va.) Speedway were postponed by a poor weather forecast; the races will be rescheduled. ... The next scheduled round is set for Aug. 10-12. ... Matt Glanden won the DIS Crate Late Model feature over Joe Warren.
