What won the race: Polesitter Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., retook the lead from David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., on lap nine and led the rest of the way for his first career Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory, earning $2,500. Fifth-starting Brian Rickman finished second, while Michael Arnold was third.
Quotable: “We’ve been painfully close to getting one of these State Series wins, so it feels so fulfilling to finally get one,” Alberson said. “(Car owner Raymond) Childress gives me everything that I need with this team to get the job done. We’ve had a lot of speed here lately but just have fallen a little short of the win. Saturday night we are able to put it all together to get the win. Hopefully this momentum will build for the rest of the season.”
Key notes: Heavy rains overnight in central Mississippi forced track officials to push the program back awhile as track prep took significantly longer. … Scott Abraham brought out a caution when he slowed in turn two on lap 10. ... A yellow waved on lap 17 for Austen Dempsey who slowed on the backstretch. ... Austin Arnold slowed to draw a caution on lap 33. ... Rick Rickman slowed on lap 39 to bring out a caution. ... The series opened a two-race weekend at Hattiesburg Friday before moving 95 miles north to Jackson Motor Speedway. … There have been nine different winners in 11 series races. … Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark., and David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., are the only multiple series winners this season, with two wins each. … Cliff Ross won the night's Crate Late Model feature.
On the move: Manny Falcon improved four positions to finish seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Alberson’s Childress Racing Black Diamond Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Childress Fishing & Rental, Childress Inspections Services, J&J Motorsports, PRP Suspension, Stuckey Enterprises, J. Craig Tile, Wehrs Machine, Argyle Welding Supply, Mesilla Valley Transportation and Rio Grande Foot Clinic.
