John Waters grabbed his second RUSH tour victory of the season.
What won the race: Polesitter John Waters of Whitesville, N.Y., led all 25 laps Thursday at McKean County Raceway for a $1,500 Fair Race victory. Waters took the checkers ahead of fifth-starting Mike Pegher Jr. of Wexford, Pa., for his second victory of the season on the Sweeney Chevrolet RUSH Series.
Quotable: "I saw Pegher got up to second on the scoreboard. I just had to hit my marks, hold my line, and if he passed me he passed me," Waters said. "I kind of laid off the last five laps knowing it was only 25 laps tonight so I didn't catch that lapped traffic. I figured if I saw Mike's nose underneath me I'd pick it up.”
Key notes: Waters previously won on the series June 3 at Genesee Speedway in Batavia, N.Y. ... Bill Kessler spun for a lap-six caution, and there was a three-car trangle on the backstretch on the restart involving Mike Wonderling Jr., Brad Mesler and Brian Knowles. ... The RUSH Series returns to McKean County on Sept. 29-30 for a $2,500-to-win event.
On the move: Eric Wilson of Cortland, Ohio, started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Waters drove a Dale LeBarron-owned No. 11 sponsored by Atkins Appraisal, Troupscreek Heating, Fox Shocks, Fastline Performance, Renegade Forestry Management, Close Racing Supply and Sunoco/Insinger Performance Race Fuels.
Points chase: Entering the race, Bryce Davis led the series standings (772 points) over John Waters (758) and Jeremy Wonderling (743).
