What won the race: Second-starting Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., drove to his 108th career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory, leading all 40 laps and collecting $3,000. Phillips's former teammate Jeremy Payne, also of Springfield, followed him across the line while modified ace Jason Krohn of Slayton, Minn., was third.
Quotable: "I didn't have much of a tire there at the end," Phillips said. "I was trying to pass 'em (lapped cars) without using my tires up. This track's pretty wide and eventually they got out of the way."
Key notes: Ryan Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa, entered Saturday's event on a two-race MLRA winning streak; he finished fourth. ... Polesitter Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., faded to finish seventh; he won last year's MLRA visit to the 3/8-mile oval. ... Phillips 108 series triumphs are the most of any driver; Al Purkey of Coffeyville, Kan., is second with 49. ... The series made its 13th stop in Mayetta, Kan. ... MLRA competitors return to Thunder Hill on Aug. 23 for another $3,000-to-win event.
On the move: Former series champion John Anderson of Omaha, Neb., moved forward seven positions to finish sixth; Shannon Scott of Henryetta, Okla., mounted a 16th-to-eighth charge.
Winner's sponsors: Phillips wheels a Hatfield-powered Rocket Chassis sponsored by Andy's Frozen Custard, Champion Brands, Don Babb Motorsports, Integra Shocks, Keyser Mfg., Mesilla Valley Transportation and New Vision Graphics
