Donny Schatz and his team enjoy victory lane at River Cities.
What won the race: Sweeping sprint and Late Model features, fourth-starting Donny Schatz of Fargo, N.D., topped NLRA points leader and fellow second-row starter Ricky Weiss on Friday at River Cities Speedway for his second straight Northern LateModel Racing Association victory. Schatz, who led the final 10 laps after overtaking Weiss, also won the night's World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series feature.
Quotable: "Yeah, it's been a pretty incredible week. Pretty surreal actually, Schatz said. "We except the wins in the sprint car, but when I get in this (Late Model), as good as the race car has been, it's pretty incredible. I've got a guy that works on it 24-7-365, so when you work on it, it's going to show."
Key notes: Schatz dove between Ricky Weiss and Dustin Strand on a mid-race restart and said "we were like a ham sandwich coming off turn two. It worked. I guess when you have fenders you can have that." ... Schatz won NLRA's race the previous night at Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba. ... Three of his four career NLRA victories have come at River Cities. ... Zach Naastad led three laps but retired on a lap-three caution. ... Among cautions was an eight-car pileup between turns one and two, one lap after Mike Balcaen was eliminated in a tangle. ... Twenty of the 26 starters finished the feature. ... River Cities hosted the middle race of a weekend tripleheader.
On the move: Shane Edginton of Winnipeg, Manitoba, started 19th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Schatz's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by DKW Transport, Fargo Petro Stopping Centers and Fastlane Car Wash.
Points chase: Entering the event, Ricky Weiss (756 points) of Headingly, Manitoba led NLRA standings over Dustin Strand (702) and Brad Seng (690).
