Billy Moyer won Saturday's John Mannlein Memorial at I-55.
What won the race: Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., wrapped up a $5,000 MARS West victory at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 six laps after second-running Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., was eliminated in a rollover accident. Moyer led all but two laps and took the checkers nearly two seconds ahead of Brian Shirley.
Quotable: “I ran the first couple of laps around the bottom and then moved up (to the top) and it felt a lot better to me up there,” said Moyer. “Everything turned up good. (Pierce) was underneath me there a couple of times and run me clean like I try to do. We had a lot of fun. We race a lot of times side by side. I hate that (accident) happened to him.”
Key notes: Billy Moyer has 22 career MARS victories. ... Moyer started from the pole after winning his heat race and earning the top spot through the redraw. ... The victory was his first since a July 15 Comp Cams series victory in Little Rock, Ark., and was the second race on a new Moyer Victory Race Car the winner debuted with a runner-up finish on Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. ... Tim Manville led a single lap early and Pierce paced lap 33; Moyer regained the lead and, on a restart, something appeared to lock up on Pierce's car entering turn one and he hit the wall, then collected Payton Looney and Michael Kloos for a collision then got Pierce upside down; he wasn't hurt. ... Pierce had won the previous night's series race at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. ... Manville was running third at the time and ended up retiring one lap later. ... Tony Jackson Jr. was fourth in his second straight race driving the Barry Wright Race Cars house car. ... Nineteen drivers finished the race, with 15 completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Mason Oberkramer of Broseley, Mo., started 13th and finished fifth.
