Riley Hickman raced to his second career Ultimate Southeast victory.
What won the race: Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., captured his first Super Late Model victory of the season with a flag-to-flag triumph on the Ultimate Southeast Series at Senoia Raceway. Hickman led all 40 laps of the feature to earn $4,000 as he took the checkers 2.196 seconds ahead of Brasstown, N.C.'s Ray Cook.
Quotable: “I love coming over here (to Senoia). Some of our finishes don’t prove it,” said Hickman. “We’ve led a lot of races over here and at the end give it up or just couldn’t put a solid 40 or 50 laps together and finally we were able to do that. Heck, I’m wore out just thinking about it in the race car, just hoping, telling myself not to screw up. Whenever we can go somewhere you’ve got to finesse, that’s more my speed.”
Key notes: Hickman scored his second career Ultimate Southeast victory and first since the 2013 opener in Lavonia, Ga. ... Thirteen drivers finished on the lead lap. ... Three cars were light at the scales after time trials, including Ashton Winger, who would've been third fastest. ... T.J. Reaid broke a transmission and missed time trials. ... The third annual event helps disadvantaged kids by raising money for kids3.org. ... Austin Horton won the Limited Late Model feature and Ashton Winger captured the Crate Late Model main event.
On the move: Michael Page improved seven spots after starting 16th.
Winner's sponsors: Hickman’s Capital Race Car is powered by a Vic Hill Race Engine and sponsored by Austin Trucking, Brinkley Farms, American Billet, Hickman Manufacturing, Competition Racing Equipment and RH Designs.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Tyler Millwood (425 points) of Kingston, Ga., led the Ultimate Southeast standings over Jason Welshan (405) and Dennis Franklin (361).
