What won the race: Repeating one of his first career special-event victories, 45-year-old Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., captured Thursday's Silver 1000 at Proctor Speedway. Mars, who also won the race in 1992, grabbed a victory in the race that traditionally kicks off WISSOTA's special event season.
Key notes: Mars, who started third, led the final 22 laps after taking the point from Doar. ... Last year's winner Darrell Nelson was knocked out by a flat tire while running third. ... A red flag appeared for a medical emergency in the stands; a gentleman suffered a cut on the head. ... Sixteen of 25 starters were running at the finish. ... The race name comes from the original payout of 1,000 silver dollars. ... The 45th annual Silver 1000, which kicks off WISSOTA's special event season, is behind only the World 100 for Dirt Late Model events run continuously at the same track. ... Lap money is also available in the main event. ... The track is honoring the event's first 10 winners during opening ceremonies with most of them expected to return, including inaugural winner Dave Bjorge of Austin, Minn. ... Proctor recently announced leadership changes with vice president Mike Donahue moving up to the president role to replace Dennis McCauley.
