Logan Martin heads to his first career MLRA victory at Lakeside.
What won the race: Using a slider to take the lead from Jesse Stovall on lap 10 of 30, Logan Martin of West Plains, Mo., led the rest of the way, outrunning Rodney Sanders of Happy, Texas, for his first career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory in Lakeside Speedway's Clyde Ellis Memorial. Martin earned a $3,000 payday.
Quotable: "I threw that slider on (Stovall) down there in (turns) one and two and I kind of found a little line over there in three and four," said Martin. "These Rocket XR1s, they keep them so sealed up that we were having overheating issues in that heat race. I've got to give a hats off to Jack Cornett he builds a heck of an engine.”
Key notes: Martin crossed the finish line 4.800 seconds ahead of Sanders. ... A former winner on the MARS DIRTcar Series, Martin has captured multiple weekly event victories this season, his latest coming at Federated Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo., on Aug. 19. … Jesse Stovall, who returned to action on Thursday night at I-80 after a concussion knocked him out of action in July, led the first nine laps of the feature, but retired from action on lap 18. … Friday’s event marked the second race of of the MLRA’s Labor Day weekend triple header. Chad Simpson won the weekend opener Thursday at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. … Four different drivers held the runner up position behind Martin. Stovall held the second spot for seven laps before dropping to third and then eventually out of the race. ... Series competitors will move to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., on Saturday for the Larry Phillips Memorial.
