Points leader Ricky Weiss won Viking's NLRA weekend opener.
What won the race: Series points leader Ricky Weiss of Headingly, Manitoba, captured his third NLRA victory of the season in Viking Speedway's weekend doubleheader opener. The polesitting Weiss earned $1,600 in taking the checkers ahead of fellow front-row starter Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn.
Key notes: Weiss recorded his 11th feature win since returning to competition in his home area with family-owned equipment in mid-June. He has 12 overall victories in 2017 including a May Southern Nationals score at Crossville (Tenn.) Speedway driving for Vic Hill. ... Twenty of 26 starters were running at the finish. ... Tom Corcoran scratched from the main event. ... NLRA competitors will vie for a $1,600 first-place prize again Sunday.
On the move: Mike Prochnow of Menomonie, Wis., started 13th and finished fifth.
