Ronnie Johnson picked up his fifth career series victory.
What won the race: Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., took the lead at the halfway point from polesitter Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., and never looked back in picking up the victory in Saturday night's 30-lap Chevrolet Performance Super Series feature at Dixie Speedway. Johnson, who used a lap-14 pass to slip by Knowles en route to a $2,000 payday, crossed the finish line 2.351 seconds ahead of runner-up Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga. Knowles, who led the first 14 laps, slid back to finish third.
Key notes: It was Johnson’s first series win of 2017. ... Johnson caught Knowles as they raced through lapped traffic. ... Rodney Martin battled Knowles for the lead early, but slipped to fourth. … Johnson recorded his first Chevy Series victory of the season, moving him into a three-way tie with William Thomas and Cory Hedgecock atop the tour's all-time win list with five triumphs. ... The Chevy Series wraps up its season over the holiday weekend with visits to the Swims family's pair of Georgia tracks. Sunday night's Hoosier Race Tire South 100 at Rome Speedway offers a $10,000 top prize that is the richest is series history.
