What won the race: Jumping into the lead from the outside front row, Brad Mueller of Random Lake, Wis., led all 30 laps to win his first Dirt Kings feature of the season. Polesitter Tim Buhler of Glenbeulah, Wis., finished second, while Justin Schmidt of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., rallied from 12th to finish third. Mueller earned $1,200.
Quotable: “Other than his family members, I was probably the closest to Russ,” said Mueller, referring to Waukesha, Wis., Late Model driver Russ Scheffler, who died earlier in the week. “It would have been better if one of them won, but as good of a friend as he was to me, it means a lot for me to win it.”
Key notes: A late caution bunched the field, but Mueller had no trouble keeping Buhler at bay. ... This was the first and only Dirt Kings stop at Wilmot this season. … Mueller is the sixth different winners in eight series events this season. … Points leader Nick Anvelink of Navarino, Wis., has a series-high three victories. ... This was the season-finale for the Kenosha County Fairgrounds oval, which has suffered seven rainouts this season. … Only two events remain on the ’17 Dirt Kings tour schedule.
On the move: Justin Schmidt improved 11 spots after starting 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Mueller's Black Diamond Race Car is sponsored by Colony Brands, American Dream Realty, Wayne's Floor Covering, Bob Fish, Sunset Auto Service and Witkowski Dentistry.
Points chase: Nick Anvelink has 287 points to lead Justin Hirt (243), Ron Berna (227), Brett Swedberg (227) and Jared Siefert (225).
