What won the race: Freddie Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., led all 40 laps Saturday night at Ohio Valley Speedway for a $5,000 victory in Gibby's King Championship. It marked the second time in three years that he has captured the event as he took the checkers by nearly four seconds over runner-up Harold Redman Jr.
Quotable: "Man, I was on cruise control baby," winner Freddie Carpenter said. "It was pegged, the temperature gauge was pegged with 10 (laps) to go."
Key notes: Carpenter picked up his 18th victory of the season. ... The event wrapped up the weekly points crown for mostly AMRA-sanctioned tracks, the Dirt Track Racing National King Championship organized by Michael Gibson. ... Besides the $5,000-to-win Late Model event, modifieds ($2,500), front-wheel drive and mini wedge divisions were in action.
On the move: Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., the winner's son, rallied from the tail to finish fifth.
