Casey Roberts heads to the Alabama State Championship.
What won the race: Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., led all 45 laps Sunday for second victory in three nights of competition during the Alabama State Championships at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Roberts, who also won last year's state title, collected $4,000.
Quotable: "We had a car that was well-balanced throughout the transition of the racetrack. It done real well." Roberts said, thanking his crew." Congratulations to (runner-up) Riley (Hickman) and them, them guys done an awesome job. Them guys are hard to outrun. They run real well."
Key notes: Pearson Lee Williams ran second most of the first half of the race before slipping back and retiring on lap 30 after drawing two cautions; fire briefly flamed up under the Williams car in the pits. ... Several turn-two spins drew cautions. ... Sunday's lineup was determined by average finishes of Friday and Saturday's action (Roberts and Riley Hickman won $2,500 features in preliminary action, while Roberts finished second in the other feature). ... The weekend was originally Southern All Star-sanctioned, but the track elected to run the weekend without the series.
