What won the race: Surviving a couple of scrapes, polesitter John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., earned $2,500 at I-75 Raceway for his first UCRA victory of the season. Ownbey made contact in taking the early lead from Jason Manley, then tangled with Shane Tankersley on a restart, sending Tankersley for a spin.
Quotable: "I didn't mean to hit Jason (Manley) and pop his tire" Ownbey said. "I race a little rough out there, but the contact is expected; otherwise we'd just go drag-racing."
Key notes: Rain started shortly after took the checkers 2.190 seconds ahead of runner-up Jesse Lowe. ... Sam Seawright and Kenny Hall failed to start the feature. ... Ten cars completed all 40 laps. ... Ownbey joined Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., and Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, Ga., as series winners at I-75. … The race honored the track owner's late father, who previously commandeered a John Deere tractor in his role at the racetrack. The tractor was parked next to Owenby's car in victory lane.
On the move: Chip Brindle started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Ownbey's MasterSbilt Race Car has a Phantom Racing Engine and sponsorship from Sam's Restaurant Equipment, Frazier Apartment Rentals & Property Management, CarSmart and M&S Motors.
Points chase: Entering the event, Rusty Ballenger of Seymour, Tenn., had 268 points to lead Jesse Lowe (231), Kyle Courtney (222), Chip Brindle (204) and Jason Manley (170).
