Matt Lux takes the checkers at Lernerville to win the Steel City Stampede.
What won the race: Matt Lux of Franklin, Pa., overtook race-long pacesetter Michael Norris of Sarver, Pa., for the lead on a lap-20 restart and marched on to capture Saturday's 25-lap Steel City Stampede feature at Lernerville Speedway. Lux held on to defeat Norris, the 2017 track champion and last year's Stampede winner, by 0.637 of a second for a $3,000 triumph.
Key notes: Lux started on the pole, but the third-starting Norris grabbed the lead at the initial green flag and stayed there until Lux found a way past with five laps remaining. Lux actually slipped as far back as fourth before getting by Alex Ferree and Mike Pegher Jr. to regain second just prior to the lap-20 caution flag. ... The lap-20 restart was set up by a caution for a spin by Clayton Kennedy. ... Finishing third was Russ King, whose brother, Rex King Jr., won the Stampede's big-block modified feature. ... Outside polesitter Andrew Wylie was the race's first retiree, completing 14 laps. ... The ninth annual DIRTcar Roundup Steel City Stampede featured 10 divisions of racing, including RUSH Crate Late Models, sprints and big-block modifieds.
On the move: Russ King of Bristolville, Ohio, advanced from the ninth starting spot to finish third.
Winner's sponsors: Matt Lux’s winning Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Cool Water Saloon, Stanford’s Glass Service, Garda Rx and Townsend Gas & Oil.
