Brett Hamm climbs from his car following his first Ultimate Southeast Series win.
What won the race: Polesitter Brett Hamm of Newberry, S.C., held off a late-race charge from fourth-starting Ross Bailes of Clover S.C., in leading every lap at Modoc Raceway. Bailes finished second, while fifth-starting Brent Dixon was third. Hamm earned $4,000 for his first career Ultimate Southeast Series victory.
Quotable: "We took the lead here back in April at the Jack Starrette race and then broke a drive shaft," said Hamm. "So to come back here and get it done was big for our little team. We have only raced about 12 times this year and to beat the kind of field we did here tonight is just special."
Key notes: There have been 16 different winners in 19 series races this season. ... Prior to Saturday's event, Hamm's most recent sanctioned victory also came at Modoc, in Carolina Clash action on May 14, 2016. ... Screven Motor Speedway hosts the tour's season finale on Nov. 17-18.
On the move: Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., (13th to sixth) and Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tenn., (15th to eighth) both improved seven positions.
