What won the race: Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., kicked off Senoia Raceway's Showdown Shoot-Out weekend with a convincing $3,000 victory in Friday night's unsanctioned 30-lap Super Late Model feature. Sticking to the slick oval's inside lane, he turned back a brief challenge from Shane Clanton of Zebulon, Ga., to beat the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series regular by 1.186 seconds in a tuneup for Saturday evening's $10,000-to-win Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series event.
Quotable: “We just work hard,” said an emotional Page, who also won the evening’s Crate Late Model feature. “We work up this morning and we brought three cars here, and we ain’t stopped since I woke up and I’m about wore out — seriously.”
Key notes: Page's triumph came just under a month since he scored the biggest win of his career in a Lucas Oil Series event at his home track of Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga. He also won a $4,000 Spring Nationals event at Senoia on March 24. ... Page started from the pole position and led every lap of the caution-free race. ... Runner-up Clanton noted he needed to "get a little more traction to steer a little bit better" for Saturday's high-dollar finale. ... Donald McIntosh, who won a Southern Nationals A-main at Senoia in July, finished a distant third. ... Bubba Pollard, an asphalt Late Model ace who also competes on dirt, finished fourth. ... Limited Late Models and Crate Late Models competed in prelims on Friday and will contest features on Saturday.
Winner's sponsors: Page’s Stinger Race Car is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Baird Transport, Elite Concrete, Baird Towing and T&T Trucking.
Points chase: Clint Smith is Senoia's Super Late Model track champion.
