Jackie Boggs tunes up at Lake Cumberland before Saturday's victory.
What won the race: Fourth-starting Jackie Boggs of Grayson, Ky., overtook polesitter Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., and beat Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., to the checkers for a $5,000 Schaeffer Oil Iron-Man Series victory in Lake Cumberland Speedway's Finn Watson Memorial.
Quotable: "You gotta have a really good race car to get around this little racetrack (fast)," Boggs said. "It'll make a racer out of you, I promise you that. It's a hard little raetrack to get around, but I love it."
Key notes: Boggs scored his second Iron-Man victory of the season. He was the winner of the Oct. 7 event at 201 Speedway in Sitka, Ky. … Boggs became the tour’s first repeat winner on the 2017 schedule. ... Victor Lee of Danville, Ky., lowered the track record in time trials. He did not start the feature. … Third-place finisher Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., piloted a C.J. Rayburn-owned car instead of his familiar No. 157. … A yellow flag waved on the initial start for a pileup involving Michael Chilton, Dakotah Knuckles, Brian Smith, Steve Smith, Greg Johnson and others. The race was brought to a complete restart. … Tyler Carpenter slowed off the pace to draw a caution on the fifth lap. … A red flag fell on the ensuing restart when Steve Smith rolled his No. 3 in turn three. He climbed from the car apparently uninjured. … A yellow flag waved just shy of the halfway mark when second-running Kent Robinson made contact with the lapped car of Jeff Neubert, with the pair spinning to a stop on the backstretch. ... Saturday's program marked the final race of the season for Lake Cumberland, which Brandon Hardgrove reopened in 2017 after being closed in recent years.
