Walker Arthur had three top-five finishes in three East Bay starts.
What won the race: Charging from back in the pack, Walker Arthur of Forest, Va., took the lead on the 35th of 50 laps Saturday at East Bay Raceway Park for a $3,000 victory in the Crate Late Model Winternationals finale. Arthur finished three seconds ahead of Friday winner Doug Horton, who moved up two spots on the last lap after a Cla Knight-Austin Horton tangle.
Quotable: "We've been working on this thing hard," said Arthur, who finished third and fourth the previous two nights. "We haven't exactly been as good as we wanted. We've been consistent, but the car's thrown us a curveball and we got lucky there."
Key notes: Arthur overtook Cla Knight with 16 laps remaining amid lapped traffic. ... Knight led laps 18-34. ... Clay Harris led the race's first 13 laps with Jack Nosbisch Jr. leading laps 14-17. ... After Arthur took the lead, Knight was running second until Austin Burns made contact entering turn three on the final lap. Doug Horton slipped by to finish second while Burns ended up third and Knight spun. ... Knight drove the opposite around the track afterwards to confront Burns but was restrained by track workers after he climbed from his car.
Winner's sponsors: Arthur's No. 87 is sponsored by Cecil B. Arthur Beef Farms, All About Wraps, Walnut Ridge Kennels, and Goode Country Store.
