Mark Whitener picks up his $3,000 check in Ellisville, Fla.
What won the race: Mark Whitener took the lead from fellow Middleburg, Fla., driver Jason Fitzgerald on the 19th lap and led the rest of the way Saturday at All-Tech Raceway. Whitener, who won by 3.525 seconds over Fitzgerald, pocketed $3,000 in the season opener on the National Late Model Super Car Series.
Key notes: Seven drivers completed 40 laps. ... The series is under the direction of East Alabama Motor Speedway owner Billy Thomas, who purchased the remnants of the National Late Model Series and the Southern Thunder Late Model Series and combined the two circuits into a single tour. ... Saturday marked the first of two NLMSCS visits to All-Tech Raceway this season. The tour returns Nov. 1-3 for a $10,000-to-win event.
