Trever Feathers earned a $4,000 victory at Hagerstown Speedway.
What won the race: Starting outside the front row, Trever Feathers of Winchester, Va., surged into the lead at the drop of the green flag and rolled to a $4,000 victory in Saturday night's 30-lap Ultimate Northeast Super Late Model Series season opener at Hagerstown Speedway.
Quotable: "About halfway, the track started bolting (down), so I just kind of backed myself down when I caught those lapped cars," said Feather, who recorded his fourth career win at Hagerstown. "I knew I wasn’t going to pass them unless they messed up, so I just tried to be there. I was just trying to take care of my tires and pray for no cautions .. which we got two of them with three to go, so I’m glad we were able to come up here tonight and get the win with the Ultimate Series.”
Key notes: A lap-29 caution set up a one-lap shootout in which Feathers held off Matt Cosner and Kenny Moreland. ... Feathers, who built a lead of as much as six seconds before late cautions kept his final margin to a more modest amount, also received a guaranteed starting position in Hagerstown’s April 21 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event. ... Gary Stuhler, who plans to chase the Ultimate Northeast Series, retired due to rearend problems. ... It was the first-ever Ultimate Northeast visit to Hagerstown.
On the move: Brian Booze improved five spots after starting 18th.
Winner's sponsors: Feathers drives a Barry Wright Race Car with a Devenny's Racing Engine and sponsorship from McFarland Custom Painting, Fastenal, Ritter's, Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and North River Farm
