What won the race: Making his first trip to Sumpter Speedway pay off, Brian Carswell of Valdese, N.C., led flag-to-flag for his first Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models victory of the season. Carswell finished ahead of Cale Green and Tony Ayers to earn $1,200.
Quotable: “We kinda played the tire game all night long. Never being here, we didn’t really know what tires to put on … what compound to run,” said Carswell. “Jacob and Robert and all of them, they got together and figured out what compound we needed … and a few phone calls from some good friends and they kept us up front all night long.”
Key notes: Carswell has three podium finishes in three Blue Ridge Outlaw series events this season. Along with Saturday’s win, he finished second at East Lincoln Speedway in Stanley, N.C., o March 17 and second at Lancaster (S.C) Speedway on March 31. … The series returns to Sumter on July 28 and Nov. 10.
