What won the race: Leading the final five laps of the 50-lap main event after passing race-long leader Phillip Cobb, Georgian Ashton Winger outdistanced Doug Horton to win the 12th annual Scott Thompson Memorial at East Bay Raceway Park. Cobb settled for third after leading the first 45 circuits.
Key notes: Cobb dominated the race early before eventually giving way to Winger. … The annual Scott Thompson Memorial for Crate Late Models, traditionally offers a winning prize of $3,800 in tribute to the Thompson family’s No. 38, but an additional $200 was added the year thanks to a donation by Robert Romano, boosting the winner’s share to $4,000. … Former winners include Keith Nosbisch, Rich Pratt, Doug Horton, Travis Varnadore, Mark Whitener, Jason Fitzgerald and Kyle Bronson. … Nosbisch and Bronson are two-time winners, while Whitener is the only three-time winner.
