Nate Jantz won his second career Sooner Late Model Series feature.
What won the race: Taking the lead when smoke poured from the slowing car of race-long leader Jason Redman, third-starting Nate Jantz of McKinney, Texas, led the final two laps of Friday's Sooner Late Model Series opener at Southern Oklahoma Speedway. Kip Hughes finished second in the 25-lapper.
Quotable: "I hated to see that with Jason," Jantz said of the polesitter Redman's misfortune. "We race a lot together and he is a solid dude. But you have to take them however you can get them."
Key notes: Jantz won his second straight series race; he captured Oct. 20's season finale at Red Dirt Raceway in Meeker, Okla. ... Jason Redman, who dropped out in 10th, is the reigning series champion and ran most of the race unchallenged. ... Redman believed he lost a motor. "It is a good car and it was dialed in. We just have to get the powerplant figured out," he said. ... Kip Hughes finished second using a Late Model with a Crate engine.
Winner's sponsors: Nantz drives a Black Diamond Race Car powered by a Jimmy Allard Racing Engine with sponsorship from WRP Racing Products, K & J Properties and Karl Gollnast.
Points chase: Jantz takes the early series points lead.
