David Payne picked up a $1,800 victory at Tri-County.
What won the race: David Payne of Murphy, N.C., picked up his first Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Model Series victory of the season, winning at his home track for an $1,800 triumph. Payne led all 30 laps and crossed the finish line 2.567 seconds ahead of runner-up Brian Carswell.
Key notes: A caution with four laps to go bunched up the field for a restart, but Payne pulled away again down the stretch. ... It was Carswell's third runner-up finish of the season. He also has a pair of series wins. ... No heat races were run with the feature being lined up heads up from time trials. ... The tour heads 30 miles southeast to Blue Ridge Motorsports Park Saturday.
