Justin Kay grabbed his first victory on the Malvern Bank tour.
What won the race: Inheriting the lead when frontunners tangled with 12 laps remaining, surprise entrant Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, grabbed his first Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series at Off Road Speedway. Kay, who started sixth, earned $2,000 Saturday in a race where Kyle Berck led the first 18 laps but spun after contact with hometown driver Tad Pospisil in a battle for lead.
Key notes: Kay snapped Bill Leighton Jr.'s three-race winning streak in series action at Off Road Speedway; he's the 26th different winner in series history. ... The only stop the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series will make at Off Road Speedway this season marked the second race of a weekend tripleheader as the tour hits three states over Memorial Day weekend. … The series opened up the weekend Friday with Corey Zeitner of Bellevue, Neb., winning at Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, and wraps up Sunday at Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D.
On the move: Ben Schaller of Omaha, Neb., started 10th and finished third; Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Neb., rallied from 14th to fourth.
