Jason Covert takes the checkers in his Tri-Track Challenge victory.
What won the race: Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., picked up a $3,000 victory in the Tri-Track Challenge event at Williams Grove Speedway. Covert passed early race leader Rick Eckert on lap 14 and never looked back to pick up the victory. He then crossed the finish line 2.440 seconds ahead of runner-up Coleby Frye in a race where a first-lap pileup eliminated Jeff Rine and other contenders.
Quotable: Winning at Williams Grove "is always at the top of my list," winner Jason Covert said. "We got fortunate and didn't get in that wreck there. I about did — I was left, right, left, right — and we were lucky enough to (miss) it. Just a shame everybody got their stuff tore up there. You hate to see that. Things went our way."
Key notes: Shortly after Covert took command, early leader Rick Eckert slowed with a flat left-rear tire. ... On the first lap, backstretch contact sent Jeff Rine's car into the inside guardrail at the end of the frontstretch; when his car spun toward the middle of the track he collected perhaps a dozen other cars. ... The final Tri-Track Challenge event is set for July 6 at Bedford Speedway.
On the move: Dave Stamm of Mifflinburg, Pa., started 17th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Covert's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Troy Swindell Trucking, Phi Tech Solutions, Keyser Mfg., Mann Automotive and Cameron Construction.
