Matt Long picks up his $3,000 check at Virginia Motor Speedway.
What won the race: Overtaking polesitter Ross Bailes on a lap-17 restart, outside front-row starter Matt Long of Concord, N.C., led the remainder of the 40-lap feature Saturday at Virginia Motor Speedway. Pocketing $3,000, Long beat Logan Roberson to the checkers by 1.065 seconds in the Fastrak Racing Series portion of the USA 100.
Quotable: "We've been on a helluva ride the last two months ... this is three in a row for us," Long said in victory lane.
Key notes: Long got his first Fastrak Racing Series victory and is on a personal three-race winning streak. His previous triumphs came at Sumter and Clary's speedways... Long hasn't finished worse than fifth all season. ... A six-car pileup halted the race's initial start with several other cautions for multi-car incidents to follow. ... Among drivers involved in cautions were Ahnna Parkhurst, Jared Powell, Matt Tarbox, Brett Bordeaux, Davis Lipscombe, Brad Basey, Darrell Dow and Brian Hankins. ... A final caution on lap 37 gave Roberson a final shot to overtake Long but he was unsuccessful. ... Jensen Ford did not start the feature after a heat-race accident. ... The race was on the undercard of Tyler Bare's first Super Late Model victory, a $20,000-to-win Ultimate Southeast payday.
Winner's sponsors: Matt Long's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Heintz Bros. Performance, Mello Yello, Circle K, JRi Shocks and DirtWrap.
