What won the race: Polesitter Mike Benedum of Salem, W.Va., held off a charging Jared Miley to earn a $7,000 victory in Friday night's 50-lap Zimmer's United Late Model Series feature at Tyler County Speedway. Benedum led the race from flag-to-flag but had to survive Miley's late challenges in lapped traffic to preserve his first-ever ULMS triumph.
Quotable: “I think we may I went with a little (softer) tire and them long green flag runs … I knew that someone was back there ‘cause I could hear ‘em,” said Benedum. “I got a little bit tangled up behind some of them lapped cars there and I accidentally got into one of ‘em. I didn’t mean to do that. The right rear tire started going away on me. So I had to really be easy with it.”
Key notes: Half of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap. ... Tyler County’s fourth annual Mega 100 weekend features three nights of action, including a pair of ULMS races. Saturday’s A-main for the tour pays $2,000. … The United Late Model Series made just its second-ever visit to Tyler County.
