Runner-up Nick Marolf (33) and winner Justin Kay (15) battle.
What won the race: Third-starting Justin Kay of Wheatland, Iowa, won a race-long, caution-free battle with polesitter Nick Marolf of Moscow, Iowa, taking the lead for good on the 30th circuit and continuing on for a $3,000 IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series victory. Kay, who swapped the lead six times with Marolf, became the tour's first repeat winner in 2014.
Key notes: Marolf led the opening five circuits of the 40-lapper before Kay moved ahead for the first time. ... The pair of drivers would swap the lead four times in the next 10 laps before Marolf gained command and began to stretch his lead. ... After trailing the leader for 15 laps, Kay closed back in and overtook Marolf for good on lap 30. ... The winner pulled away over the final 10 circuits and had a cushion on three lapped cars at the finish. ... Ray Guss Jr. (lap six) and Nate Beuseling (lap 19) were among early retirees. ... Kay's previous series victory came May 4 at Quad City Speedway in East Moline, Ill. ... The triumph is Kay's third in the first eight days of July and carries momentum from a seven-victory June. ... Kay owns five career series victories.
Winner's sponsors: Kay drives a Barry Wright Race Car with sponsorship from Heinee Jo's, Jr's Place, Kay Farms & Elevator, Kay & Sons Trucking, Petersen Insurance and Wheatland Ag Center.
