Will Vaught completes his sweep at Lake Ozark Speedway.
What won the race: Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., completed a sweep of the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Association's holiday-week doubleheader at Lake Ozark Speedway with a flag-to-flag victory worth $5,000 in Saturday night's 41-lap feature. The race's polesitter turned back fellow Missourian Jesse Stovall on a restart with one lap remaining to secure his third MLRA triumph of 2018.
Quotable: "We were very fortunate to beat the kind of cars here," Vaught said. "We caught onto something this weekend on this race car and tuned on it from last night and it felt a lot better tonight."
Key notes: Vaught's 10th career MLRA win came after he opened Lake Ozark's weekend with a $3,000 score on Friday night. ... The one-lap dash to the finish was set up after Chad Simpson spun around in turn three while bidding to overtake Stovall for second. A caution flag flew and Simpson was unable to continue, ending his hopes in disappointing fashion for the second straight night. ... Terry Phillips shot up to third on the final restart in just his second MLRA start of the season. ... Outside polesitter Mitch McGrath slipped backward to a fifth-place finish. ... The feature was run over the 41-lap distance in honor of late sprint car driver Jason Johnson, who died in a recent accident.
On the move: Joey Stark of Lake Ozark, Mo., started 20th and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Vaught's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Johnson's Service Station, Wright Asphalt Products, Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks and GW Performance.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, had 1,055 points to lead Tony Jackson Jr. (957) and Will Vaught (921).
