Chad Holladay heads to his second career series victory.
What won the race: Second-starting Chad Holladay of Muscatine, Iowa, turned back third-starting Denny Eckrich to win Wednesday’s IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series main event at C.J. Speedway. Holladay earned $2,000 for his second career Deery Brothers series triumph.
Quotable: “There were a couple cautions that worked in my favor and took out lapped traffic at halfway and again with five to go,” Holladay said. “You always want clean air ahead of you and we had a very good car tonight.”
Key notes: Holladay’s previous series win came Sept. 24, 2016 at West Liberty (Iowa) Raceway. … … There have been six different winners in eight races. … Series ironman Darrel DeFrance finished third after starting from the pole. … Justin Kay, a three-time winner this season, rallied to 10th after starting 22nd. … The Deery Brothers Summer Series returned to C.J. Speedway, which is located at the Louisa County Fairgrounds, for the sixth times in series history, but first since 1996 when the track was named Louisa County Speedway.
On the move: Todd Cooney of Des Moines, Iowa, started 25th and improved 16 positions to finish ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Holladay's Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Holladay Trucking, Honts Construction, GH Race Cars and Keith Stanley DOS.
Points chase: Before Columbus Junction: Justin Kay (282) leads Ryan Dolan (260), Jeremiah Hurst (247), Curt Martin (238) and Todd Cooney (233).
