Tyler Bare climbed atop his car to celebrate at Elkins.
What won the race: Second-starting Tyler Bare of Rockbridge Baths, Va., outran fellow front-row starter Jared Hawkins on his way to a $5,200 payday in Friday's Red Fredrick Memorial at Elkins Raceway. Bare led all 52 laps and took the checkers 1.830 seconds ahead of Hawkins in the first of two weekend specials at Elkins.
Key notes: Bare, whose first Super Late Model victory came last month at Virginia Motor Speedway in Bryan Klinedinst's No. 43a Rocket Chassis, notched his sixth overall victory of 2018 driving his family-owned No. 30 Rocket. ... Runner-up Jared Hawkins fielded the Catlettsburg, Ky.-based Tim Logan Racing No. 11. ... Chris Carpenter retired on the 16th lap while running sixth and his brother Tyler Carpenter lasted just eight laps. ... Heat winner Andy Bond and Robbie Scott retired on the ninth lap after tangling while battling outside the top five. ... A dozen drivers completed 52 laps. ... The track returns to action Saturday with the $5,000-to-win Skidmore Memorial for Super Late Models. ...
