Jimmy Mars won Saturday at Rice Lake, his second WCS win of the weekend.
What won the race: Fourth-starting Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., picked up his second Wollak Construction WISSOTA Challenge Series victory of the weekend and third of the season Saturday as he topped Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., at Rice Lake Speedway. Mars, who won Friday at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wis., earned $2,000 after taking the lead from Matthees on the sixth of 40 laps.
Key notes: Mars won at Rice Lake for the first time since 2010. ... After 12 races, Mars and John Kaanta have three series wins each, while Ricky Weiss, Don Shaw and Kent Arment have two apiece. … Along with his win Friday at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wis., Mars also win the tour’s season-opener at Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway. … Mars has six career WCS victories. … A.J Diemel of Elk Mound, Wis., who had won the last two series races at Rice Lake, was subbing for the injured John Kaanta. … The cars of Mark Hessler and Mike Prochnow were hooked together mid-race; it required three wreckers to pry them apart.
On the move: Buddy Hanestad of Boyceville, Wis., started 23rd and finishd 13th.
