Ashton Winger grabbed a home-state victory at Blue Ridge.
What won the race: Going from third to first on a lap-27 restart, Ashton Winger of Fayetteville, Ga., raced to his second career Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series victory Saturday at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park. Winger earned $2,500 while Jamey Boland, who led the first 26 laps, settled for sixth.
Quotable: “I was able to get a good run on the restart and get enough momentum on the bottom of the track to be able to slide up in front of Jamey,” winner Ashton Winger said. “Jamey was strong the first part of the race, and I felt like the restart was my best chance to make something happen.”
Key notes: Winger's first career series victory came June 9 in Greenville, Miss. ... When Winger took the lead from Jamey Boland on lap 27, Boland tried a crossover move but got sideways to avoid Greg Martin and Larry Picklesimer, who were battling for position; Boland dropped back to fourth and eventually lost two more spots. ... Series points leader Cory Hedgecock improved seven positions to finish third. ... Polesitter Kyle Courtney of Knoxville, Tenn., had mechanical trouble before the green flag fell and didn't start. … Fifteen drivers completed 50 laps. … Six cautions slowed the action, including on lap 30 when Donald Johns hit the backstretch wall and collected his son Oakley Johnes and Bryant Marsh. ... Winger joins Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, Tenn., and Jake Knowles of Rome, Ga., as drivers with two series wins apiece this season. ... The series has suffered four rainouts in five scheduled races in July, including Friday at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn.

Winner's sponsors: Winger's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Johnny Doan Plumbing, Textron Off Road, Keyser Mfg. and J&C Properties.
