Dennis Franklin (2) slides under Michael Brown for the winning pass.
What won the race: Winningest series driver Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., won for the first time in more than two years Saturday at Lancaster Motor Speedway. The sixth-starting Franklin overtook polesitter and leading series rookie Michael Brown with 14 laps remaining and drove away for a $4,000 victory.
Quotable: “Before we got out front I knew we had a good car. I just needed to get to that clean air,” Franklin said. “I knew the top was good down yonder and we finally got up there and got the lead and got gone. It was just one of them nights where you had a great car and we capitalized on it.”
Key notes: Franklin snapped a winless streak that extended back to July 22, 2016, a span of 743 days when he last won at Swainsboro (Ga.) Raceway in Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals action. … Leader Ben Watkins and Zack Mitchell spun after making contact while racing for the lead on lap 11, ending the night for Mitchell; Watkins restarted on the tail. … Franklin, the seventh winner in seven 2018 series races, has 42 career Carolina Clash victories. ... Franklin's previous series victory came March 26, 2016, in Fayetteville, N.C. ... Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., piloted G.R. Smith's No. 22 Rocket Chassis and retired at halfway with brake failure; he ran as high as second before a flat tire knocked him from contention. ... Eleven drivers completed 40 laps. ... The series returns to Lancaster on Sept. 1.
On the move: Dennis Franklin won after starting sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Franklin's AES Racing Swartz Race Car is sponsored by Baird Transport, Nichols Plumbing & Piping, Textron Off Road and AES Racing.
