Jason Jameson talks about his Iron-Man win at Lake Cumberland.
What won the race: Third-starting Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., took the lead from polesitter Jason Welshan on the opening lap and drove to his second Schaeffer’s Iron-Man Series victory of the season, winning the tour’s Harold Hardgrove Memorial on Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Jameson outran Hall of Famer Billy Moyer to earn $5,022.
Quotable: “Starting position and getting up front was a lot,” winner Jason Jameson said. “I knew if I could get down the backstretch and take the lead they’d have a hard time passing me back. Everything worked out in (my) favor tonight. Hat’s off to the crew. They worked their butts off to get this new car out.”
Key notes: Jameson made a three-wide pass for the lead as he, Jason Welshan and Billy Moyer raced down the backstretch. ... His previous Iron-Man win came June 23 at Florence (Ky.) Speedway. … Moyer’s runner-up finish came after the Batesville, Ark., driver made the haul to Lake Cumberland after competing in Friday's prelims at Mansfield's Dirt Million. … Seven of the 22 starters completed all 40 laps. … Series points leader Joey Standridge finished 13th. … The race paid tribute to long-time Lake Cumberland owner Harold Hardgrove, who bought the track in late 1997 and opened the track in 1998. He operated the speedway until his death in 2009. … Lake Cumberland hosted the Schaeffer's Iron-Man Series for the third time this season. … The series returns to Lake Cumberland on Oct. 6.
Winner's sponsors: Jameson’s Rattliff Racing Swartz Race Car has a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship from MGL Auto Sales, On Time Courier and Pro-Tech Metal Fabrication.
Points chase: After Lake Cumberland, Joey Standridge (1,985) leads Jason Jameson (1,122) and Chicky Barton (896).
